We woke up one night to a loud crash. We sprung out of bed and assumed the cats knocked something over. The hubs opened our door only to find the glass piece of our light fixture in a million pieces. While I had planned on cleaning the floors, I didn't really plan on doing it at 4:00 a.m. I later stepped on a shred of glass and it lodged in my foot pretty good. I was able to convince the hubs that the only way to make it feel better was to be served an iced chai tea from Starbucks, and it worked! I had originally set out to create a light fixture using a mercury glass treatment and recreate a fixture I fell in love with from Pottery Barn, but I have yet to find a fixture to use
(no fear, I will eventually find one!). I had picked up some mason jars at Goodwill to practice this mercury glass treatment, but decided I would settle for some standard spray paint. I was so excited with how they turned out and realized I definitely did not settle.
Supplies Needed:
- Mason jars (I picked up mine for $0.50 at Goodwill)
- Spray paint (I picked up mine at Michael's for about $3, using a 40% off coupon)
I've used several different brands of spray paint, but I like Krylon the best. The nozzle works great and you don't have to press down very hard
(I have gotten some really sore fingers from other brands of spray paint). Make sure to do your spray painting in a well-ventilated area. I did about three coats of paint.
Cute-right!?
Put some cute tulips in your jars and you've got the start to a great centerpiece.
You can officially add aqua mason jars with tulips to the list of things I can't get enough of.

ReplyDeleteThese are so nice!
I love the colour you chose for the jars and tulips are my favourite cut flower so win/win here.
I also really love your last photo as I love birds. Is that bird's nest made from grapevines?
May I assume you painted the outside of the jars?
Really wonderful all around!
