Sunburst mirror tutorial round 2

Remember when I noted my mild obsession about sunburst mirrors here.  Well, I was faced with a major dilemma-I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted to make my mirror look like, so I made two (problem solved! and really, can you have too many sunburst mirrors?)

I seriously cannot get enough of these sunburst mirrors.

This mirror was actually less expensive than my other version (score!)

Supplies needed:
  • Bamboo skewers ($1.00 at the local grocery store)
  • Mirror ($1.00 at the dollar store)
  • Hot glue ($1.00 at the dollar store)
  • Spray paint ($2.96 at Menards)
  • Damage free hanger strips ($3.97 at Menards)
Yes, you calculated that correctly-just under $10.00 for this sunburst mirror.

Start by painting all the skewers.  I decided to paint my skewers gold to give the impression that they were metal, but any color would look great.

Cut a cardboard circle slightly smaller than the size of your mirror.  I drew out lines to help guide me with where I wanted the first round of skewers to be placed.

Continue by creating your pattern with the skewers.  Make sure to use a generous amount of hot glue.  I did not use enough and my mirror ended up being pretty fragile.

Next use some glue (I used Gorilla brand super glue) to adhere the mirror to the cardboard.

Use something heavy to set on the mirror until the glue is dry.

Add one of the damage free hanging strips, from 3M, to the back of the mirror and hang in a lovely place in your home.  I just love the gold against the blue of the wall.

Have you gotten your fix of sunburst mirrors lately?
